Wrought iron is no longer produced on a commercial scale, but is still made for replication, restoration and conservation of historical ironwork. Many products today described as wrought iron are actually made of mild steel. The iron we use (like wrought iron) is low-carbon and is also made and manufactured right here in the U.S.A.
The traditional methods that we have and continue to use in making our products include cutting, shaping, bending, punching, hammering, grinding and welding. Not all products require every process listed but most do! Therefore the word “Wrought” meaning (worked) by hand as they are made and bent is still used when describing our products.

How do I clean 60 year old inside wrought iron. It’s an old telephone seat.
From what I’ve learned over the years the best way to clean any wrought iron is just with a mild soap and water. Do not use soap that has bleach in it or anti bacterial or anything harsh as that could react with the wrought iron in a negative way. You could clean the iron with the mild soap and water and use a toothbrush or similar to get into the cracks or crevices that is typical with old wrought iron. After you cleanse it, if it is still looking too rough or has rusted, you can sand the area you don’t like with a medium sand paper and then paint the wrought iron with a paint that is designed for metal surfaces. The paint should guard against the rust returning. Hope this helps. Take Care.
